The complexity of metalworking fluids (MWFs) has significantly increased in recent years with new technologies and overall growing environmental, health and safety (EHS) concerns. With a decreasing chemical portfolio resulting from compliance challenges and an increasing cost-performance requirement from end-users, MWF formulators face more challenging market demands.

As MWF formulators search for innovative technologies to meet the ever-changing landscape, the new formulation development has a ripple effect on the labeling, cost and end-user preferences that must be addressed. In many cases, the bigger the formulary change, the more significant the ripple effect. To help formulators address the challenges, this presentation focuses on a new perspective for scaling changes in working formulations while managing the ripple effect. In the formulations demonstrated, fluid life, pH stability and multi-metal compatibility become easier to achieve with optimised additive use.
